أَحْمَد
أَيْنَ الْكِتَابُ يَا زَيْنَبُ؟
Where is the book, Zaynab?
زَيْنَب
الْكِتَابُ عَلَى الْمَكْتَبِ فِي الْغُرْفَةِ.
The book is on the desk in the room.
أَحْمَد
وَأَيْنَ الدَّفْتَرُ؟ هَلْ هُوَ فِي الْحَقِيبَةِ أَمْ عَلَى السَّرِيرِ؟
And where is the notebook? Is it in the bag or on the bed?
زَيْنَب
الدَّفْتَرُ فِي الْحَقِيبَةِ مَعَ الْقَلَمِ.
The notebook is in the bag with the pen.
زَيْنَب
مَتَى تَذْهَبُ إِلَى الْمَدْرَسَةِ؟
When do you go to the school?
أَحْمَد
أَذْهَبُ إِلَى الْمَدْرَسَةِ مَعَ أَخِي فِي السَّبِيعَةِ صَبَاحًا.
I go to the school with my brother at seven in the morning.
زَيْنَب
هَلْ تَذْهَبُ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ مُبَاشَرَةً إِلَى الْمَدْرَسَةِ؟
Do you go from the house directly to the school?
أَحْمَد
نَعَمْ، نَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ وَنَمُرُّ بِالْمَسْجِدِ ثُمَّ نَذْهَبُ إِلَى الْمَدْرَسَةِ.
Yes, we leave from the house, pass by the mosque, then go to the school.
أَحْمَد
لِمَنْ هٰذَا الْقَلَمُ الْأَزْرَقُ؟
For whom is this blue pen?
زَيْنَب
هٰذَا الْقَلَمُ لِلطَّالِبِ الْجَدِيدِ، وَلَيْسَ لَكَ.
This pen is for the new student, not for you.
زَيْنَب
لِمَاذَا تَقْرَأُ فِي هٰذَا الْكِتَابِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ؟
Why do you read in this book every day?
أَحْمَد
لِأَنَّ الْمُعَلِّمَ يَسْأَلُنَا عَنِ الدَّرْسِ فِي كُلِّ حِصَّةٍ.
Because the teacher asks us about the lesson in every class.
أَحْمَد
هَلْ تَذْهَبِينَ مَعَ صَدِيقَتِكِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ؟
Do you go with your friend to the mosque?
زَيْنَب
نَعَمْ، أَذْهَبُ مَعَهَا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فِي الْمَسَاءِ.
Yes, I go with her to the mosque in the evening.
زَيْنَب
شُكْرًا لَكَ يَا أَحْمَدُ، اَلْآنَ أَرَى الْفَرْقَ بَيْنَ (فِي الْبَيْتِ)، (مِنَ الْبَيْتِ)، وَ(إِلَى الْبَيْتِ).
Thank you, Ahmad. Now I see the difference between “in the house”, “from the house”, and “to the house”.
أَحْمَد
وَلا تَنْسَي أَنَّ كُلَّ هٰذِهِ الْحُرُوفِ تَجُرُّ الاِسْمَ بَعْدَهَا، فَيَكُونُ مَجْرُورًا بِالْكَسْرَةِ.
And don’t forget that all of these particles pull the noun after them into the Majroor state with Kasra.
Grammar Note

This dialogue demonstrates all seven prepositions from Lesson 6.
Notice how the nouns after them are always Majroor with Kasra: فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، عَلَى الْمَكْتَبِ، مِنَ الْبَيْتِ، إِلَى الْمَدْرَسَةِ، بِالْقَلَمِ، لِلطَّالِبِ، مَعَ الْمُعَلِّمِ، عَنِ الدَّرْسِ.
